Collector Preventive, Customs Officials attend funeral of slain SPO

KARACHI: The funeral prayers of the slain Senior Preventive Officer (SPO) Salahuddin A Khan were offered on Monday at Tooba Mosque located in Block 13 C, Gulshan e Iqbal behind Ashfaq Memorial Hospital.

Collector MCC Preventive Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda, Collector of Customs Adjudication-II Dr Ahmed Mujtaba Memon, Additional Collectors (ADCs) Tahir Qureshi, Feroz Alam Junejo, Assistant Collectors Wasif Malik, Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi and other officials of Pakistan Customs attended the funeral prayers of the deceased SPO.

After the funeral prayers, the deceased was laid to rest at Essa Nagri Graveyard located near Hasan Square in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

It may be mentioned here that the unidentified armed men targeted SPO Salahuddin A Khan and SPO Mehmood Ahmed near their residences located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Friday night.

Afterward, both the Customs officials were rushed to a private hospital for treatment where the SPO Salahuddin was succumbed to his injuries while the other SPO Mehmood Ahmed is still under treatment at a private hospital. Both the slain and injured SPOs were residing in the same locality of Gulshan-e-Iqbal and being targeted by the armed assailants when they were both returning from their duty.

The Pakistan Customs sources informed Customs Today that both the officials were deputed at Arrival of Jinnah International Airport. The sources said that both the deceased and injured SPOs of Pakistan Customs were ‘dead honest officials and always discharged their duties with great passion and determination. Responding to a query, the Pakistan Customs sources ruled out the incident linked with the targeted killing and said that the personal enmity could be behind the killing of SPO Salahuddin A Khan.

It may also be mentioned here that the Collector MCC Preventive S M Tariq Huda has ordered the Assistant Collector Wasif Malik deputed at Arrival JIAP to submit an inquiry report into the Office of the Collector MCC Preventive after carrying out the investigation of the case.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan Customs authorities have also contacted the officers of Law Enforcing Agency (LEAs) including Police and Rangers and asked them to carry out speedy investigation into the case and bring the culprits into the court of law.

It may also be mentioned here that a Principal Appraiser Asad Masood was also targeted by the unidentified gunmen in the area of Defence, last month in which the Principal Appraiser got bullet wound injuries.
