Collector Raja Tahir rules in favour of Customs Intelligence

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Collector Raja Tahir Majeed has issued an Order-in-Original (ONO) in favour of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation and Faisalabad Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO), and ordered to impound trailer along with recovered items.

As per details, the customs officials intercepted a trailer bearing Registration No TLG-467 for checking that led to the recovery 86,210 kilogram of used iron pipes seamless. The consignment was imported by M/s Hajvery Steel Industry and others.

The officials impounded the trailer under Section 17 of the Customs Act, 1969 for checking and verification. The vehicle was shifted to Faisalabad Dry Port for examination of the goods.

The officials found difference in weight declared through a goods declaration No 14785 by the importers, as 73,300kg iron was got cleared, while the actual weight was 86,210kg. The importers evaded millions of rupees through mis-declaration in violation of Section 18, 32, and 79 of the Custom Act, 1969.

Later, the case was sent to adjudication for further legal proceedings where Collector Raja Tahir heard arguments of both sides and stated, “It is proved beyond that  the seized vehicle is indeed a smuggled vehicle as defined under Section 2(S) of the Customs Act, 1969”.

Therefore, Customs Adjudication Collector Raja Tahir Majeed has issued Order-in-Original (ONO) in favour of the Customs Intelligence under section 156 (1) 89 (i) of the Customs Act 1969 and ordered to impound the truck along with consignments.
