KARACHI: Collector of Model Customs Collectorate-Preventive Dr Saifuddin Junejo has held a meeting at his office and discussed ways and means to stop smuggling activities at Karachi-Balochistan border.
Sources informed Customs Today that the department has decided to take decisive action against smuggling cartels, adding that Dr Saifuddin Junejo has also asked the officials to utilize all the available resources to bust smuggling cartels and ensure proper action against smuggling of contraband items.
During the meeting, the collector further asked the officials concerned to visit check-posts established on Superhighway and National Highway to monitor illegal activities if any.
In the meeting, it was decided that all land routes leads from Balochistan to Karachi would be thoroughly checked by the customs officials adding that numbers of officials would also be increased at those check-posts.
During the meeting, Collector has also stressed upon to make effective co-ordination with other law enforcing agencies.
It may be mentioned here that the Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Zahid Khokhar, few days ago conducted a meeting of the authorities concerned of all respective Collectorates including MCC-Preventive, MCC-Export, MCC-Quetta and MCC-Gwadar in which the Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) was also of the view to make close co-ordination with other agencies including Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Pakistan Rangers (PR), Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) and Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) in order to get more fruitful results in curbing the smuggling of contraband items.
