MULTAN: Customs authorities increased monitoring at Multan International Airport in order to prevent smuggling attempts.
Assistant Collector Faizan Badar received directions from Collector Sarfraz Ahmad Warraich to keep strict check on passenger cargo movements through flights. This monitoring and random scanning of domestic passenger cargo is initiated after credible information that smuggling attempt could be made from Multan Airport. Customs staff directed to remain in high alert due to instruction of the collector.
Customs staff seized heroine from luggage of of a passenger few days ago and later he was handed over to Anti-Narcotics Force. Customs authorities have already foiled a bid to smuggle large quantity of mobile phones and memory cards from Multan Airport. The market value of impounded items are Rs 14 million. Customs decided to tighten scrutiny of arriving and departure passengers in order to curb money laundering.
