ISLAMABAD: Collector Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhary directed anti-smuggling squads to enhance crackdown on Indian goods which were being smuggled to Kohala.
The collector expressed these views during an exclusive interview with Customs Today. He said that it is need of the hour to take all possible measures against Indian smuggled goods via LoC. These goods are being supplied illegally to various parts of Pakistan, causing harm to genuine business activities.
The collector said that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) should adopt a comprehensive policy to curb smuggling attempts in Kashmir region.
Answering a query, he said that till today all anti-smuggling squads are working for the last two weeks and not a single consignment has been allowed to enter from Kohala to Pindi-Islamabad. “we could not compromise on Indian origin non-tariff goods as these are also hazardous for health,” he added.
He said FBR has assigned revenue targets for financial year 2018-19 under all heads but Collectorate will try its level best to chase those assigned targets. He added that Collectorate was assigned revenue target of Rs7705 million under head of customs duty (CD) from July to June FY2018-19.
Zulfiqar Chaudhary said that FBR assigned revenue target of Rs.9041 million under head of sales tax (ST) whereas the MCC has been assigned Rs.700 million under head of federal excise duty (FED) as well as the Collectorate assigned revenue collection target Rs4111 million under head of withholding tax (WHT) for FY 2018-19.
Telling the month-wise details of CD, he said that MCC Islamabad correspondingly was assigned Rs401 million under head of CD for month of July, Rs559 million under same head for month of August, Rs.494 million for September, Rs.699 million for month of October, Rs.633 million for month of November, Rs.807 million for month of December, Rs.688 million for month of January, Rs.652 million under same head for month of February, Rs.752 million for month of March, Rs.574 million CD for month of April, Rs.564 million for month of May whereas the MCC Islamabad was assigned Rs.882 million under head of CD for month of June FY18-19.
