KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed all the Collectorates of Customs to ensure counter-checking of each/every certificate to be produced by the importer/clearing agent claiming free/concessionary rate of duties/taxes, it is learnt.
According to sources of Customs Today, the FBR has made verification of the certificates by the Collectorates as compulsory to allow the release of goods/relief in duties/taxes. In the past, there was a number of cases in which the importers produced fake/forged certificates and got their goods cleared causing heavy losses to the national exchequer, sources added.
It is therefore, directed that the import authorization, exemptions, special permission would be subject to verification and authenticity from the executive director general, ministry of commerce before release of goods by the customs authorities.
