We received a tip-off that a Colombian national would be landing at Indira Gandhi International airport on June 22 to smuggle drugs. Accordingly, a trap was laid and he was detained.

The Colombian national, name withheld, arrived in Delhi by ET686 flight on June 22. He was carrying cocaine inside his body, as he had swallowed the capsules containing drugs. He was detained at the airport, and the NCB officers took him to Safdarjung hospital for X-Ray. After appropriate medication, he expelled a total of 66 capsules through passage, the official said.

From the day he was admitted, he remained under medical supervision.

On Friday, he was produced before the court and sent for judicial custody. He disclosed that he was supposed to hand the drugs over to some person in Chennai.

Drugs, especially cocaine, destined from South America are often trafficked into India by the same route as opted in this case, an official close to investigation said.
