BOGOTA: Colombian police seized 339 kilos (747 pounds) of cocaine found hidden in two separate banana shipments bound for the Bahamas and Greece, authorities said Tuesday. The drugs were detected during inspections in the Caribbean port of Santa Marta.
While examining the contents of a container headed for Freeport, Bahamas, officers noted several irregularities and decided to take a closer look, leading to the discovery of “329 rectangular packages covered with plastic and adhesive tape” that proved to hold a little more than 327 kilos of cocaine, police said.
In a second inspection, agents found more than 11 kilos of cocaine hidden among bananas bound for the Greek city of Thessaloniki.
