Colombo Port partners Sri Lanka Country Pavilion

The Port of Colombo through an exclusive delegation from Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), South Asia Gateway Terminals (Pvt) Ltd. (SAGT) and Colombo International Container Terminals (Ltd) (CICT) partnered in the Sri Lanka Country Pavilion at the Transport and Logistics Fair in Germany.

The Transport and Logistics Fair was held from June 4-7 in Munich Germany. The annual event attracts more than 2, 000 exhibitors and nearly 70,000 business visitors for sectors such as logistics, mobility, IT and supply chain. The Sri Lankan segment of this Transport and Logistics Fair was facilitated through the delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka following its recommendation to organize a Sri Lanka Pavilion at the event. Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) was the main coordinating arm for Sri Lanka’s participation at the event. The main purpose of the EDB coordinating the participation at this event is to promote the image of Sri Lanka as a logistics hub in the world which is one of the strategic objectives of the National Export Strategy launched on July 19 2018.

The opening of the Sri Lanka Country Pavilion at the Transport and Logistics Fair 2019 was graced by Minister of Ports and Shipping Sagala Ratnayaka and the Parliamentary State Secretary of Germany Steffen Bilger. Speaking at the opening of the event, Minister Ratnayaka said that it was a perfect opportunity to brand Sri Lanka and its port sector being the 11th best connectivity port and the 22nd best container port in the global container port rankings. The Minister also briefed the Parliamentary State Secretary of Germany Steffen Bilger of the present progress and future development agenda of Sri Lanka and its port sector.

Expressing views Parliamentary State Secretary of Germany Steffen Bilger thanked the Minister and Sri Lankan delegation for participating in the event and said that he hoped Sri Lanka would receive more and more cooperation and benefit through participation in the event.

Participation in the Sri Lanka Country Pavilion at the Transport and Logistics Fair also included the presence of SLPA representatives; Director (Logistics) Upul Jayatissa, Chief Manager (Communication and Public Relations) Nalin Aponso, SAGT representatives; Chief Executive Officer Romesh David, Chief Commercial Office, Ted Muttiah, Commercial and Marketing Manager – Dashma Karunaratne, and CICT representative; General Manager (Commercial and Marketing ) Catriona Jayasundera.
