A source in the Commerce Ministry said that the commerce minister would chair board meetings of TDAP and EDF in Karachi and would give his vision to take both the organizations forward.

He said that the minister was worried about reduced volume of exports in the second quarter and had been urging the departments concerned to expedite their pace to increase the volume of foreign trade and exports.

“The very objective of chairing the upcoming board meetings of TDAP and EDF would also be a part of chain of encouragement from the minister as after getting first hand knowledge about problems of these organisations, the minister would share his ideas for gearing up pace of performance of these organisations,” the source said.

Source said that the meetings would approve a number of projects as well as review implementation on decisions made in previous meetings.

Source said that the EDF board would review utilisation of approved funding for the ongoing projects of fibre classification system (a project of the Ministry of Textile Industry), vapour heat treatment (VHT) plant for mangoes, national trade and transport facilitation project and garment city in Karachi.

The meeting would also review implementation of previously approved projects of Cotton Ginning Research Centre Multan, Shrimp Farming Project Karachi and establishment of Display Centre and Research Institute by SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Islamabad.
