The association expressed disappointment over the Textile Ministry for not inviting the value-added textile sector to the conference and termed that the ministry’s by ignoring the value-added textile sector at its textile conference had committed “discrimination. “

The association said that of the total textile jobs, the apparel industry provides 90 per cent employment in the country and the sector contributed largest revenue to the national exchequer.

The pregmea stressed that such conferences help the entire sector to improve production and solve issues, but the ministry by ignoring majority of stakeholders could not claim that it was a national conference.

“How can the government frame a textile policy in the absence of majority of stakeholders of the industry from the conference,” the association asked.

It is to be noted that still appreciate the role former textile minister Rana Farooq Saeed Khan for formulating the country’s maiden textile policy during the previous government of PPP.
