Conference on Afghanistan: PM Nawaz Sharif reaches London tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will participate in a two-day London Conference on Afghanistan to be co-hosted by the Britain and Afghan governments scheduled to be started from Dec 3 (Wednesday).

Besides Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, representatives of 50 countries and 15 international organisations will attend in London Conference to discuss the continuation of their contribution for the development of Afghanistan.

The foreign ministry informed that PM Sharif would discuss bilateral relations with British Prime Minister and hold meeting with World Bank officials.

British PM Cameron would host a breakfast meeting, which would be attended by Pakistani prime minister and the Afghan leadership. A bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry is also scheduled.

Meanwhile, Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Sirajul Haq Siraj told the media in Kabul that the discussions at London would focus on venues to helping Afghanistan stand on its own feet.

Kabul will ask the international community to renew its commitments made at the Tokyo Conference such as contributing 4 billion U.S, dollars to Afghanistan until 2017 and spending on some major projects in Afghanistan.

It sit o be noted that British Prime Minister David Cameron invited his Pakistani counterpart in a telephone talk to the Conference on Oct 28.
