NEW YORK: Philips, one of the largest technology giant has banged the markets with its new invention in the form of a wireless lamp. That’s right Philips Company has made world’s first ever wireless lamp that can be controlled with Android or iOS smartphone. Moreover it has wireless charging and different lights option ion it.

Tech company, Philips, is adding another color-changing light to their ‘Hue’ family. It is called the ‘Hue Go’.

For some strange reason each time I pronounce it I think of the name ‘Hugo’ and that reminds me of The Vicar of Dibley! Completely random and stupid, but probably a reason I couldn’t buy it, when people ask what it is, I will say “that is my Hugo”. And that sounds weird.

My quirks aside, this is a very simply designed light with clean lines and a no fuss appearance. And yes it does look somewhat like a salad bowl. For some reason the company also seem to think that people will sit with it in their laps, as per this press shot they have released.

However that did make me think how good it would be if it could act as a lamp and a warming device. No longer would we need those large patio heaters in gardens, we could all just sit round with our bowl of light and warmth. Maybe one day that idea will happen.

It is available in the UK from April 2nd 2015, and will be available in the USA from June onwards. It already has a few positive reviews on Amazon even though it has only been available for a couple of days as I write this.

At first glance this may just appear to be a normal light you can carry around. But it can be controlled with your smartphone or a tablet, you can switch between 5 different dynamic light effects. The light effects have typical fuzzy feeling names:

Enchanted Forest

Night Adventure

Cozy Candle

Sunday Coffee

Meditation

It can also be linked to your music, television and games. The company say it can interact with over 200 third-party Android and iOS apps. You could get notifications about new emails and things like that, although why you would want to set it up to do that I am not sure.

3 hours is the amount of time 1 charge lasts for. You could use it outdoors on clear summers evenings, especially for BBQs or having a quiet glass of wine in the garden with your partner. But it isn’t waterproof so it couldn’t be left outside.

There is also a video demonstrating it on their YouTube channel, here it is if you want to take a look.

Perhaps in the future we will lean more towards less lights per household, but we move them around with us. Rather than have them fixed in walls, perhaps this is more how we will do it. It potentially could save money and help save the planet. But it would take some getting used to, especially if you are caught short and need to race to the toilet, but someones hidden the lamp!
