LONDON: Robert Ahlen, the former CEO of Dream Hack and one of the most loved and well known figures, became the victim of political conspiracy. Ahlen was the long-standing chief executive of Dream Hack, the organisation behind the largest LAN event in the world, an event that has since grown into more of a gaming carnival. With the amount of money, side events and smaller gigs around Europe, Dream Hack is effectively a European equivalent of Major League Gaming in the United States, although one could quite rightly argue that Dream Hack has a lot more sustainability when tens of thousands of gamers happily pay big bucks to rock up to a hall with their PCs.
But Ahlen heads up Dream Hack no longer, after the company’s head of public relations, Fredrik Nostrum, announced the CEO had been “relieved of his duties”. Ahlen took to Twitter in an understandably belligerent fashion, writing “a pox on all you’re (sic) houses” and “may @Dream Hack die an ignoble death”.
The former CEO has added that he will “do what amuses” himself in the future, potentially indicating that he might talk further about his dismissal in public. It wouldn’t be out of character for Ahlen to talk openly on The GD Studio, a sports studio based out of Stockholm known for its irreverent and colourful broadcasts. Ahlen is a regular guest on the show and given his distaste for what happened, it’s likely this story will run for some time.
