Construction work resumes on Karachi circular railway project

KARACHI: Construction work on Karachi’s circular railway project, which had been closed for more than a decade, has finally resumed.

According to details, Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalwani inspected the track laying process started by Pakistan Railways. Restoration work of 9 km track from City Station to Shah Latif has also been completed.

On this occasion, Railways and Mass Transit officials also gave a briefing in which it was informed that track restoration began on July 1 and 30 km of track will be repaired and restored in the first phase.

During the Commissioner’s inspection, he reviewed the plan to fix the sewerage system at Urdu College and overhead bridge at Nazimabad.

Commissioner Karachi said that the project should be completed as per the orders of the Supreme Court. A new track will be laid on the four kilometer railway line up to Depot Hill.

He further said that DS Railway should soon complete the construction of overhead bridge at Nazimabad.
