Consumers yet to enjoy low prices of vegetables, fruits in retail market

LAHORE: The consumers are still deprived of lower wholesale prices of vegetables and fruits in the retail market even after the holy month of Ramazan.

The whole sellers have now released the leftover stock, slashing the significant prices of commodities. However, the retailers are still reluctant to pass this benefit on to the masses in the provincial capital.

The price of tomato was decreased to around Rs25-30 per kg but retailers are selling this vegetable at Rs50-60 per kg. The rate of onion was down by at least Rs15 per kg in wholesale market but its rate too was constant at Rs50 per kg. In the same way rate of potato was not decreased by the vendors despite the fact its price was declined by Rs10 per kg in vegetable wholesale market. There was no change in the prices of beef, mutton, wheat flour, spices, pulses, fresh and packed milk, rice, eggs, tea, ghee and cooking oil.

Cauliflower price went up to Rs50 per kg and cabbage price remained unchanged at Rs40 per kg during the week. Price of peas witnessed a reduction of Rs20 per kg to Rs100 per kg, brinjal price down by Rs10 per kg to Rs 40 per kg and bean price witnessed no change which is being sold at Rs60 per kg. Chilli price increased to Rs 60 per kg, lemon price did not witness any change, which are being sold at Rs130 per kg. Ginger and garlic price did not witness any change as ginger is being sold at Rs250 per kg and garlic at Rs200 per kg.

Spinach is being sold at Rs20 per kg, tinda price slashed by Rs15 per kg to Rs40 per kg, Capsicum and okra prices did not witness any change and are being sold at Rs60 per kg and at Rs50 per kg while bitter gourd price witnessed a reduction of Rs20 per kg in wholesale market Rs30 per kg but in retail market it is still being sold at Rs60 per kg.
