WILMINGTON: Following what it has said was a record-breaking year for container traffic, the N.C. State Ports Authority has had two straight months of increased traffic over the previous year, according to a news release.
The Ports Authority, which operates ports in Wilmington and Morehead City, saw an 8.3 percent increase in January in container traffic, measured as twenty-foot equivalents, or TEUs, and a 7.7 percent increase in February from the same months in 2015, the release said.
In 2015, the ports processed nearly 300,000 TEUs, which was the most on record. “Last year we broke the Authority record in terms of TEUs moved due to a number of new services, diversions and our lack of congestion,” Ports Authority CEO Paul J. Cozza said in a statement. “This year we’ve been able to sustain that positive momentum with our best-in-class efficiencies and superior customer service.”
