Cost of Golan Gol Hydal project increases to Rs 26b from Rs 7b

ISLAMABAD: Production cost of Golan Gol Hydal power project has increased to Rs 26 billion from Rs 7 billion and expected to go further up due to delay in the project.

Golan Gol power project was started in Chitral back in 2002 which estimated to complete with a cost of Rs 7 billion. However, this 150 megawatt power project has not been completed despite passage of 14 years.

The cost of the project was estimated Rs 26 billion in 2015 and it has to be completed in 2016. According to Wapda, it will not be completed this year as only 37 per cent work has been completed thus far. Due to unavailability of funds for power projects, the cost of the project is expected to rise again.
