COPENHAGEN: The cost of villas, condos and townhouses rose by 1.5 percent compared to January – the highest monthly increase since January 2010, according to real estate data.

The selling price of condominiums rose 1.7 percent nationwide from January to February – the steepest jump since February 2013.

“This year has started with the kind of jump in villa prices that we have not seen for over five years,” Birgit Daetz, a spokesperson for boligsiden.dk, told DR Nyheder.

The high prices have not discouraged eager buyers.

“The number of villas and townhouses sold in February was 39 percent higher than the average for the previous four years, and apartment sales were 70 percent higher than the average for the previous year,” continued Daetz. “The high demand pushes up prices.”

Apartment prices in Taarnby and Aalborg, for example, have risen by 25 percent over the last year, with Gladsaxe and Helsingør showing a 15 percent jump over the past year.

The number of available properties has dropped a bit, putting even more pressure on pricing.

“The high number of sales means that the number of available properties has really thinned out,” said Daetz. “The number of homes for sale is the lowest it’s been for five years.”
