WASHINGTON: Coffee exports from Costa Rica rose 14.6 percent in April compared to the same month last year, the country’s national coffee institute ICAFE said on Tuesday. Coffee shipments from Costa Rica, one of Central America’s smaller producers but famed for its high quality beans, totalled 170,169 60-kg bags for the month, compared with 148,516 bags in April 2015, according to ICAFE data.
Shipments during the first seven months of the current 2015/2016 harvest reached 653,887 bags, up 1.4 percent compared to the same seven-month period during the previous 2014/2015 crop. The coffee season in Central America and Mexico, which together produce about a fifth of the world’s arabica beans, runs from October through September.
