Cotton arrival in local markets witness 50.88% increase

ISLAMABAD: Cotton arrival in the local markets by the first week of October had registered around 50.88 percent increase as compared the arrival of the corresponding period of last year.

According the data released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) around 3,991,247 cotton bales had been arrived in local market for ginning as well as for exports compared the arrival of 2,645,349 bales of same period last year.

About 1,678,576 cotton bales had arrived from Punjab Province, which was up by 112.83 percent as against the 788,699 cotton bales arrived during the same month of last year, it added.

Meanwhile, cotton arrival in local markets from the Sindh Province had also registered an increase of 24.56 percent as about 2,312,671 cotton bales arrived as compared the 1,856,650 bales of same period last year, it added.

Out of total arrived crop, over 3,105,925 cotton bales had been sold, where as 145,886 bales were exported so far and 2,960,036 bales were sold to local textile sector, it reveled.

According to the consolidated statement of the cotton arrival in local factories of the country prepared by PCGA, the quantum of unsold commodity was recorded at 245,925 bales, where as 639,349 bales remained unginned.

Khanewal, Vehari, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Bahwal Nagar remained the top crop producer s during the period under review as compared to the production of the same period of last year.

Sangar, Nawabshah and Jamshoro remained the leading cotton producing areas of the Sindh Province.
