ISLAMABAD: Member (Operations Inland Revenue) Dr Muhammad Irshad has said that refund claims of cotton ginners would be cleared within a month.
“We are going to suggest exemption of sales tax and income tax on electricity bills and we have sent these proposals to cabinet division for approval,” he said speaking at a reception hosted by Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) in his honour.
Dr Irshad said that his office stopped the issuance of notices to ginners and a committee comprising of tax-managers and ginners would be constituted to resolve all issues amicably. He said that a mechanism and procedure was set for payment of refund on claims. He said that FBR would recover one percent tax from textile mills directly. He assured them that FBR would provide relief to farmers through ginners so that frustrated farmers could be compensated.
Ex-PCGA chairman Shehzad Ali Khan said that the ginners had suffered losses amounting to Rs 300 billion last years.
PCGA Senior Vice Chairman Suhail Mehmood Haral, Haji Muhammad Akram, Amanullah Qureshi, Sheikh Muhammad Saeed, Khawaja Muhammad Azam, Mian Fazal Elahi, Qaiser Raza, Rao Sadar-uddin, Mian Abdul Qayyum, Aamer Rasul, Umair Ali Khan, Asif Khalil, Chief Commissioner inland revenue Multan Dr Zulqarnain, Chief Commissioner inland revenue Bahawalpur Ghazanfar Hussain, Commissioner Abid Raza Bodla, Dr Khalil Ahmed, Zubair Bilal, Dr Athar Ishaq, Bahadur Ali Shah, Gulshan Abid, Ali Adnan, and Yousaf Shah were also present on the occasion.
