ISLAMABAD: The country is currently facing around 2,000 MMCFD gas shortage, however, gas is being supplied to textile industry for 6 hours daily.
This was revealed by Parliamentary Secretary for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahzadi Umarzadi Tiwana on Tuesday, while informing the National Assembly about gas situation in the country.
Responding to a Calling Attention Notice raised by Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari and others regarding discontinuation of gas supply to the textile industry as well as suspension thereof for the domestic consumers in Faisalabad, she said that there was no curtailment for domestic consumers due to shortage of gas in the country. However, gas load management was being carried out in other sectors, she said. She said there was gap between demand and supply of gas in the country and shortfall was mainly due to large number of gas connections.
Shahzadi Tiwana said the other sectors themselves could import Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for their industries.
