County Chamber celebrates job fair, business expo

WASHINGTON: Amy Reese, left, and Juanita Felipe of Jackson Hewitt Tax Service give an application to Jean Whyte-Hall at the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce’s job fair and business expo at Hager Hall Conference and Event Center in Hagerstown.The Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce brought a little celebration to its job fair and business expo by kicking off the event with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Chamber President Paul Frey said they wanted to showcase businesses this year, hence the ribbon-cutting ceremony.”We have a lot of ribbon-cuttings for businesses in the community, and we thought what better way to talk about the chamber and the vibrant businesses in the community,” Frey said. “It’s a celebration for businesses in Hagerstown and Washington County, and an opportunity for hiring in Hagerstown and Washington County.”

It was the first business expo hosted by the chamber in two years, and the first time it was combined with the job fair, he said.The combination provided businesses with opportunities to engage clients and promote what they offer, while the public could see what services and potential jobs are available, he said.”We found that there were some folks looking to hire employees, and there were some folks out in the market that are looking for jobs,” he said. “We thought we’d combine the two events.”

More than 35 vendors set up booths at the Hager Hall Conference and Event Center in Hagerstown. There was a mix of new businesses trying to engage the public, and established businesses trying to reinvent themselves.Big Cork Vineyards, which celebrated its grand opening earlier this year, had representatives and bottles of wine on hand to get its name out into the community
