KUCHING: Police arrested a couple with RM1.42 million worth of syabu and ecstasy pills at an apartment in Jalan Lapangan Terbang here yesterday.
Acting on a tip-off, the Sarawak Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department together with a team from the Kuching district police raided the house at 12.30pm. State police deputy commissioner Datuk Abdul Aziz Yusof said the raiding party discovered 1.028kg of syabu and 18,806 ecstasy pills during their inspection at the house.
“The raiding party also seized three vehicles including a Mercedez Benz and five luxury watches worth RM235,000 during the raid,” he told reporters here today. He also said the seizure was the biggest drug bust in the state within the past two years.
Checks showed the 46-year-old man has five previous drug abuse records since 2010. His accomplice, a woman aged 25 has no previous criminal records. Aziz said the couple had been remanded for a week and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking which carries the mandatory death sentence.
