Court adjourns case against alleged tyres smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has adjourned the hearing of a case filed against accused who was arrested from Lahore with a truck loaded with costly tyres.

Sources told Customs Today that accused was booked when customs intelligence team intercepted a truck which was coming from Quetta near Thokar Niaz Baig. During searching of the truck, the customs intelligence officials found a huge quantity of smuggled tyres which were tactfully hidden and packed. Sources said that tyres were packed almost five in one tyres. The tyres which were recovered by customs team included costly tyres of Pajero, Mazda trucks and other vehicles. Different brands of tyres were also recovered from the truck.

Sources told that market value of seized tyres is almost of Rs 5 million and that were being carried to Lahore for a businessman Matiur Rehman.

Customs team produced the accused before the court of Customs taxation and anti smuggling, from where the judge handed over him to customs team for interrogation for four days physical remand and then he was sent to jail for judicial trial. Now he is on judicial trial.
