Court approves  bail of accused involved in Rs127m currency smuggling

LAHORE: A Sessions Court on Wednesday granted bail to an accused who is involved in Rs 127 million currency smuggling case. The court ordered the accused to submit surety bonds of Rs 200,000 to avail the bail.

According to details, Additional District and Sessions Judge Rafaqat Ali Qamar passed the orders while accepting an application, filed by the accused, Haji Liaqat.

Earlier, the accused’s counsel Muzzamul Chaudhry submitted that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested the accused, along with others, in connection with Rs 127 million currency smuggling case. He said that FIA conducted investigations into the case, though it was not empowered for the purpose under the customs laws. He pleaded with the court to grant bail to the accused. However, the FIA counsel opposed the request and submitted that the accused was involved in the case.

The court, after hearing arguments of the parties, allowed the application and granted bail to the accused.
