Court remands suspect of 10kg gold smuggling in custody of customs

LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has sent a suspect, Toufeeq Butt allegedly involved in gold smuggling on three days physical remand in the custody of Pakistan Customs.

Earlier, Toufeeq Butt had been released on pre-arrest bail by the Lahore High Court (LHC), while alleged carrier Abdul basit is already on judicial remand.

Later, the bail was cancelled by LHC following the customs authorities’ application in this regard and he was arrested by officials on Monday night.

The customs presented the accused before the court of Special Judge Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan to get him on physical remand for interrogation. In this case the officials have also apprehended three other persons.

It is pertinent to mention here, that Butt’s colleague Abdul basit was arrested by customs authorities deployed at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore when he was attempting to smuggle 10 kilograms gold worth Rs 90 million.
