CPEC’s Suki Kinari project produces 2.7bn kWh of electricity

DERA GHAZI KHAN: The Suki Kinari hydropower station, under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), has completed its first year of commercial operations and produced 2.7 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity, according to Chinese officials.

According to details, a briefing revealed that the project has significantly reduced reliance on imported fuel. The regional headquarters of China Energy Engineering Corporation has also been established in Pakistan.

Officials described Suki Kinari as a major contributor among CPEC energy projects. During construction, over 6,000 jobs were created.

A total of 150,000 trees were planted under an afforestation campaign. Environmental protection efforts included the establishment of a trout hatchery on a 5,000 square metre area.

Infrastructure support under the project includes the reconstruction of the N-15 highway and the establishment of the Khan Area Government Service Centre.

Chinese officials called the project a shining example of Pakistan–China cooperation and shared prosperity.
