Crackdown against profiteers: 19 held, Rs3.6m fine imposed

ISLAMABAD: During a crackdown against the profiteers in the federal capital, the district administration has arrested 19 shopkeepers in the last three days and imposed fine of about Rs3.6 million.

The price checking teams, headed by the magistrates, took swift action against those involved in over-charging and not displaying the rate list of food items. The teams conducted checking of 393 shops in the rural and city areas during the last three days and arrested 19 profiteers for profiteering on food items.

ADC Abdul Sattar Esani said that price checking would be conducted on daily basis during Ramazan in order to ensure the implementation of rate list. He also held meeting with the representatives of traders community who assured their full co-operation to the administration. The checking teams also confiscated sub-standard cooking food items and imposed heavy fines on the unhygienic food outlets and sent samples to the laboratory for analysis.

Meanwhile, AC Kamran Cheema sealed two cafes in Kohsar Market for violation of Ehtiram-e-Ramazan Ordinance and serving food at the day time.
