NEW YORK: Volkswagen’s yet-to-unveil crossover coupe concept could preview a production model, owing to increase in intensity of compact crossover race in worldwide markets. It will be break cover at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Information from Reuters’ sources indicates that the coupe concept will be a five-seater variant of the German automaker’s seven-seater crossover, waiting to be built in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Not much about the crossover concept has seen the light of day, except that the car will likely bring about a production model in 2016 or 2017.

Volkswagen has set eyes on becoming the world’s no 1 car maker by 2018. They have announced to launch new cars in new segments, and enter new markets in order to achieve this aim. Crossovers are currently seeing a huge increase in demand across the globe, and launching this new crossover will help them achieve their sales target by 2018.
