HAVANA: Cuba exported 700 tons of pineapple to Europe after a harvest of eight months in Ciego de Avila province, this allowed a significant injection of foreign currency into the national economy, state media reported.
The farming project of that tropical fruit is becoming stronger every year, according to local media. In only 70 hectares of the variety pineapple MD-2 production averaged 88 tons each.
So far, managers of Ceballos are planning to export another 200 tons to Italy, Spain and France in the remainder of the year “with prospects of increased marketing to more countries of the old continent,” said the engineer Reinaldo Avila, in charge of the development of the fruit of that entity.
