HAVANA: Losses estimated in millions of dollars and damages to 14 oil wells were the result of corruption in a Cuban state oil company, according to official local media.
Seven people were found guilty, including an Argentine citizen, and were sanctioned in the Caribbean nation to terms of up to 13 years in prison.
Emilio Enrique Cotter, Argentine representative of the Uruguayan firm DFS, tried and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, managed the conclusion of contracts between the Cuban trading company Cubapetroleo (CUPET) and DFS, said the media. It is also assured that he bribed two specialists of the Research Center of the Cuban Chemical Industry into making a false report.
The State Security said that there is evidence on the behavior of Cutter pointing that the target could have been “damaging the Cuban economy,” because he could not justify the origin of the funds with which he distributed the money to the Cuban officials or the venue of DFS in Uruguay.
