KARACHI: Pakistan’s current account deficit has widened by 48 percent to $9.156 billion during July – January 2017-18 as compared with the deficit of $6.43 billion in the corresponding period of the last fiscal year.
According to balance of payment data issued by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the trade deficit widened by 24 percent to $21.51 billion during first seven months of current fiscal year as compared with the deficit of $17.35 billion in the corresponding months of the last fiscal year.
Pakistan’s exports grew by 11.05 percent during the period under review but growth in imports was also higher at 18.8 percent. On the other hand, remittances witnessed slight growth to $11.38 billion in the first seven months as compared with $10.99 billion.
