KARACHI: Pakistan’s External Current Account Balance recorded a surplus of US$ 121 million in January 2026 compared to a deficit of $ 265 million in December 2025.
However, during the first seven months of fiscal year 2025-26, the Current Account Balance recorded a deficit of $ 1,074 million in comparison to a surplus of $ 564 million during July-January FY 2024-25, the State Bank of Pakistan reported on Tuesday in the monthly summary of Balance of Payments.
The cumulative balance in trade of goods during July-January 2025-26, according to the provisional figures released by the central bank, recorded a deficit of $ 18,402 million as compared to $ 14,056 million deficit in corresponding period of FY24-25.
The balance on Trade in goods during January 2026 has recorded a deficit of $ 2,591 million as compared to a deficit of $ 2,979 million in December 2025 and $ 2,473 million in January 2025, the data depicted.
Balance on trade of services during July-January FY26 has recorded a deficit of $ 2,071 million as compared to $ 1,821 million deficit of July-January FY25, the data shown adding that in January 2026 services’ trade deficit was recorded as $ 302 million in comparison to $ 401 million deficit in December 2025 and $ 291 million deficit in January 2025.
The overall trade deficit in both goods and services reached at $ 20,473 million during Jul-Jan FY26 in comparison to the deficit of $ 15,877 million in the first 7 months of the previous fiscal year.
In January 2026, the overall deficit in trade of goods and services was recorded as $ 2,893 million as compared to the deficit of $ 3,380 million in December 2025 and the deficit of $ 2,764 million in January 2025.
The Balance on Primary Income recorded a deficit of $ 5,333 million during July-January FY26 against a deficit of $ 5,545 million in the corresponding months of last fiscal year, the SBP data showed.
The inflow of workers’ remittances from overseas during the first seven months of FY26, has recorded as $ 23,201 million in comparison to $ 20,850 million inflows in corresponding period of FY25. Inflow of remittances in January 2026 was recorded as $ 3,465 million in comparison to $ 3,592 million and $ 3,003 million inflows of December 2025 and January 2025 respectively.
Meanwhile, the Balance on Secondary Income during July-January FY26 has recorded a surplus of $ 24,732 million as compared to a surplus of $ 21,986 million in the first seven months of the previous fiscal year, the SBP data showed.
