Current capacity of PSM reaches 45%, Rs 1b to boost production up to 60-70%

KARACHI: The production of Pakistan Steel Mills is increasing heavily due to far sightedness in policy matters and timely correct measures taken regarding repair and maintenance by the management.

Current production capacity has reached 45 per cent of 1.1 Mtn per annum and its embattled to achieve more than 50 per cent CAPU (capacity utilization) during the month of January 2015, said a statement on Thursday. It is imperative to mention here that the Hot Metal Mixer (HMM) in the Steel Making Department (SMD), considered as an essential part of making homogeneous steel has been made functional by the Engineers and Technicians of PSM, which was broken for last 4 years, since 2010. The repair of HMM will further help to achieve better production target.

It is pertinent to mention about that under the control of Chief Executive Officer, Pakistan Steel Mills, Major General (R), Zaheer Ahmed Khan essential repair and maintenance of the plant has been undertaken which will hasten to achieve production targets. Moreover, the workforce and management are on the same page and striving hard to revive this national asset. The management appreciates the efforts made by all the employees and hope that these efforts will not only continue but will also increase as the situation demands.

Furthermore, it is affirmed that PSM management is perturbed on the delay in the receipt of December, 2014 tranche which includes Rs. 1 (one) billion for procuring raw material to boost the production up to 60-70 per cent level. However, efforts are underway and it is hoped that the tranche will be received by the next week and order will be placed immediately.
