Custom Court directs investigation officer to arrest absconding tax evaders

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has directed the investigation officer to arrest the suspects, Muhammad Aslam Khan, owner of M/s Horizon International and Nihal Rafi, authorized representative of the importer, in tax and duty evasion case of Rs 2.42 million.

During the hearing, the investigation officer submitted that the suspects were jointly and willfully involved in duty and taxes evasion. He said that efforts were being made to arrest them. The court also directed him to arrest the suspects and produce them before the court on the next hearing along with progress report.

According to the prosecution, Shabbir Ahmed, inspector preventive services (IPS), disposal cell airfreight unit Jinnah International Airport Karachi registered the cause under section 32 (1) (2) 32A, 79 & 80 of the Customs Act 1969, punishable under clauses 14, 14A & 43 of section 156(i) ibid read with SRO 1125(1)/2011 dated 31/12/2011.
