Custom court fixes date for framing charge against suspect booked in gold smuggling

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi fixed April 15, 2017 as a date of hearing for framing charge against accused namely Abdul Rauf Khan S/o Ammanullah Khan booked in a case of attempting to smuggle contraband six slabs of gold weighed 60 tolas from Dubai to Karachi.

According to the prosecution, on January 01, 2017, staff of the customs department intercepted the accused, Abdul Rauf Khan S/o Ammanullah Khan at the Jinnah International Airport Karachi and sent him to scanning machine for scanning of his baggage. During the examination, staff of the customs department recovered six slabs weighed 10 tolas each from his bags.

During the search, accused was asked to produce legal documents of said goods but he failed to prove anything. After the formalities, said accused and gold were taken into custody of custom department and FIR was lodged by Masood A Khan, Senior Preventive Officer Customs House Karachi.

It needs to be mentioned here that above named accused is son of Ammanullah Khan Niazi, former Jail Superintendent, Central Karachi.

According to the prosecution, case was registered in violation of Section 2 (s) and 16 of Customs Act-1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) of section 156 ibid.
