Custom Court grants bail to alleged vehicle’s smuggler

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi granted has pre-arrest bail to Aslam Pervaiz Rahpoto who is allegedly involved in smuggling of non-duty paid Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Jeep.

During the hearing, counsel for the accused submitted that his client is innocent and has been falsely implicated in this case; therefore, the court may grant him bail. After hearing the arguments, the court granted bail to the accused against the surety bonds of Rs 200,000.

The Custom Court also issued notices to the special prosecutor of custom and sought police paper for confirmation.

According to the FIR, during the investigation it was found that accused person is involved in a case of smuggled/non-duty paid Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Jeep bearing Registration No BF-1735, model 1996.

According to the prosecution, the case was registered by complainant Dilwaris Khan, a senior preventive officer on the violation of Section 2 (32) and 178 of Custom Act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (89) and 14 of custom 156 (i) ibid.
