Custom Court grants interim bail to suspect in tax evasion case

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has granted interim bail to the accused, Nazkatullah Khan son of Attaullah Khan. The suspect was booked in a case of duty and taxes evasion of Rs 1.02 million to the government exchequer.

During the hearing, counsel for the accused/ applicant filed an application for bail and argued that his client is innocent and was falsely implicated in this case, therefore, court may grant his bail till final disposal of this case.

After the hearing, court granted him bail and also issued notice to the special prosecutor for Customs Department and called police papers. The court also directed the accused to join the investigation if and when required by the investigation officer and appear before the court on the next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, during the investigation, it was revealed that above named accused in connivance with clearing agent and other accomplices has been involved submitting forged and fabricated documents which resulted into loss of duty and taxes amounting to Rs1,020, 746.

FIR No SI/MISC/03/2017 DC-WW was registered by the Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement West, Custom House Karachi in violation of under section 32(1) 32 (2) 79 & 192 of the customs act, 1969 punishable under section 14, 45 & 86 of the customs act, 1969.
