Custom Court sends diesel smugglers on judicial remand

KARACHI: Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has sent two suspects, Abdul Aziz and Niaz Muhammad, on judicial remand in a case of attempting to smuggle 22,000 litters Iranian diesel.

Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi heard the case. During the hearing, investigation officer produced the accused persons before the court and informed that on November 6, 2016, the customs staff intercepted a Hino dumper bearing Registration No TKV-172 near Mai Ghari, Karachi and recovered 22,000 litters smuggled Iranian diesel.

After the formalities same was seized and above named accused persons were arrested by the customs authorities.

Investigation officer further informed the court that one accused namely Haji Abdulla is absconder (said to be owner of recovered diesel oil valuing to Rs 1.584 million and Hino dumper worth Rs 6.584 million).

After the hearing, the court sent them to jail and directed the investigation officer to complete the investigation and arrest the absconding accused. The court also directed the investigation officer to submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered by Mashooq Ali Jakharani, preventive officer, on violation of Section 2 (s) & 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (89) of Section 156 (I) ibid.
