Customs Intelligence impounds generators worth Rs 52m from 3 warehouses

LAHORE: The Customs anti-smuggling teams raided different areas of the city and seized smuggled generators worth Rs 52 million from 3 warehouses.

Customs Today was informed by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation officials that Rs 20 million duty and taxes were leviable on the generators.

On a tip-off the teams under the direction of Deputy Collector Shafiqur Rehman raided various warehouses and impounded the generators. As many as nine generators have been impounded from a warehouse in Salamatpura area. The team has also arrested an accused, identified as Shahid.

In another raid at a warehouse in Daroghawala the intelligence team seized 30 generators. Most of the generators were smuggled from Iran and Afghanistan through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The warehouse is owned by Tahir Generator Company. The team raided the warehouse after getting a search warrant from a magistrate.

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has registered a case against the accused and further investigation is underway.
