Custom Preventive seizes contraband items worth Rs 328.73m in three months: Collector Junejo

KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate Preventive has shown tremendous performance during the last three month by taking various actions against smugglers.

According to the details, Collector of Customs Collectorate Preventive Dr Saifuddin Junejo and Deputy Collector Customs Preventive Headquarters Dr Ali Raza held a press conference and briefed the media person regarding the overall performance of the department.

During the briefing, Collector of Customs Collectorate Preventive Dr Saifuddin Junejo shared three month performance in which several raids were conducted and smuggled goods were seized in huge quantity worth millions of rupees.

He said that the Customs Collectorate of Preventive seized non-duty paid vehicles, alcohol and petroleum products worth Rs328.73 million involving evasion of duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 149.91 million in three months.

He said that in 74 days, the Customs Preventive seized 5,400 bottles of foreign origin alcohol, 16,000 kilogram smuggled grey cloth and 13,553 kilogram auto parts / spare part.

The Collector Preventive Saifuddin Junejo said that 96,849 liters of smuggled Iranian origin High Speed Diesel has been seized during the same period.

In the same period cigarettes and Gutka 4,475 and 297,185 dandas as well as pouches, one cargo launch 24 conveyances, 350 Wildlife tortoises and 4,276 Merchandize goods were also apprehended during different raids and seizures, the Collector added.

Sixteen non-duty paid luxury vehicles worth millions of rupees have also been busted whereas a total of 15 accused persons involved in the said cases have been arrested and criminal proceedings against them are in progress, informed the Collector of Customs Collectorate Preventive Dr Saifuddin Junejo.
