Custom Preventive seizes smuggled DTH equipment worth Rs14.3m

KARACHI: Collector Customs Preventive Dr Iftikhar Ahmed has said that on the orders of the honorable Supreme Court, action against smuggled Direct To Home (DTH) equipment will continue.

Dr Iftikhar Ahmed said this while addressing a press conference, held to brief the media persons over the raids conducted on the directives of the Supreme Court as well as Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) against smuggled DTH equipment.

Collector Customs Preventive informed that a team of Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) under the supervision of Assistant Collector Headquarters conducted two raids on the different places after receiving the information of smuggled DTH equipment.

Dr Iftikhar Ahmed said that the ASO team successfully raided a godown and a house located at Korangi and recovered huge quantity of smuggled equipment.

The equipment is used to broadcast Indian channels and transfer of money charged against these services to India through illegal channels. The smuggled goods were dumped/hidden in a warehouse and basement of the residence, he added.
