ISLAMABAD: Collector Customs Adjudication Dr Sadiq Ullah Khan said that his department decided over Rs1800 million worth of revenue-related contraventions and seizure cases during the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2018-19.
During an exclusive interview with Customs Today, Collector Sadiq Ullah said that there should be availability of archive containing decided cases in the premises of Adjudication offices so the relevant officials and legal representatives can get relevant background.
He stressed the need to adopt new technology tools to prevent the country’s economy from decline which is caused due to under-invoicing and money-laundering. The notorious elements are well aware of usage of new trends of sophisticated IT technology, he added.
He appreciated speedy decision-taking process adopted by the Adjudication Department. He said that the Collectorate of Adjudication decided mostly income-related cases within a month to avoid revenue stuck-up.
He said that Directorate of Training and Research (DGTR) must hold workshops and training for senior and junior officers and officials of FBR departments, including Customs, Post Clearing Audit, Adjudication and the Inland Revenue for flourishing better teams to handle litigation-related revenue cases and contraventions.
He added that said training must be conducted by the retired judges and senior lawyers who can teach them how to lay foundation of contraventions and cases as well as how to make decisions against smugglers and tax evaders according to the true spirit of law.
Collector Adjudication said that Collectorate decided total 1802 revenue related cases worth Rs1801 million during July-September of current fiscal year. He added that during the corresponding period, the Collectorate of Adjudication made decisions against 15 cases worth Rs94.574 million, those cases were filed by Customs stations working under jurisdiction of Customs’ North Region.
Dr Sadiq Ullah said that the Additional Collector decided 23 cases involving revenue of Rs36.717 million while additional collector Adjudication Camp Office Peshawar decided 112 cases of Rs191.7 million.
He said that deputy collector decided 298 seizure cases worth Rs81.849 million, while deputy collector resolved 60 seizures/contraventions worth Rs12.249 million.
