Customs Adjudication declares seizure of smuggled cigarettes as legal

LAHORE: The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication has declared the seizure of foreign origin cigarettes worth millions of rupees as legal .

According to the details, the cigarettes were seized by an Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO)  team of the Customs Preventive in January 2017. However, the cigarettes remained unclaimed by the parties and finally the Customs Adjudication ordered the ASO to impound the cigarettes in the name of the state.  Additional Collector of Customs heard the case and finally passed an order consisting three pages.

It was said that based on what has been stated, it is proved beyond any shadow of doubt that cigarettes were brought into the country without the payment of duty and taxes which is an illegal act.

The charges leveled in the show cause notice are found correct and thus the cigarettes must be confiscated. It is also pertinent to mention here that after the start of new fiscal year Customs Adjudication expedited their efforts to conclude pending cases on priority basis.
