Customs Adjudication-I issues ONO against importer KBS Metal Traders, other

KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate of Adjudication-I has issued Order-in Original (ONO) against importer M/s K B S Metal Traders and clearing agent M/s Unique Enterprises in their alleged involvement in tax evasion of duty/taxes during the import of “compressor scrape”.

According to details, Collector Asif Marghoob Siddiqui has issued ONO against the importer M/s KBS Metal Traders and Clearing Agent M/s Unique Enterprises. The department has imposed Rs1.2million fine and Rs0.1million penalty on the importer and clearing agent each and also directed the importer to deposit the evaded duty/taxes worth Rs2.4million.

It may be mentioned here that the said tax evasion case was detected by the Research and Analysis (R&D) Wing of Port Muhammad Bin Qasim.

The port Collector Mukarram Jah Ansari received information that some unscrupulous elements are involved in tax evasion through mis-declaration into the consignments of “compressor scrape” and tried to clear the said consignments in the garb of “Iron Steel”.

Reacting upon the information, the R&D Wing was scrutinizing the imported consignments of the importer M/s KBS Metal Traders and found that the importer was involved in evading duty/taxes worth Rs2.4million.

Subsequently, the authorities concerned of the Port Muhammad Bin Qasim Collectorate were made a contravention report against the importer and clearing agent and sent it to the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I. Mukarram Jah Ansari was also suspending the license of the importer.
