Customs Adjudication issues notice to owners of non-duty paid goods

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Mohammad Hassan Farid has issued a show cause notice to the owners of non-duty paid goods which were seized by Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) staff at Babu Sabu Interchange.

According to the details, the anti-smuggling team, during routine checking at Babu Sabu Interchange, intercepted two persons who were standing near the cartons. One person Mohammad Tanveer introduced himself as labourer while Fazal-ur-Rehman and Ilyas Khan claimed the ownership of the cartons.

The ASO team asked them to open the cartons. During the examination, they found printing ink, one kilogram assorted colours, and metal box packing brand Skyey Lion made in China. The ASO team also recovered foreign origin lighting key ring of assorted shapes and sizes made of plastic and other goods.

The team asked the owners to produce any legal documents regarding possession and transportation of these goods but they failed to provide any relevant documents. Upon their failure ASO team seized the goods under Section 168 (1) of the Customs Act, 1969 for contravention of the provisions of Section 16 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause (90) of Section 156 (I) ibid read with Section 3 (1) & (3) of the Imports & Exports (Control) Act, 1950.

The anti smuggling team after registering a case of smuggling against the accused persons forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication. Now Deputy Collector Customs Adjudication issued a show cause notice to Ilyas Khan and Fazalur Rehman asking them to appear in person on 20.7.2017 at 11 a.m. at Air Freight Unit of Allama Iqbal International Airport to explain their point of view.
