Customs Adjudication issues ONO in TCS and Smart Zone smuggling case

ISLAMABAD: Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad Adjudication Collector Seema Raza Bukhari has issued an ONO in a smuggling case against TCS and Smart Zone and ordered to seize all the goods.

According to details, Adjudication Collector Seema Raza Bukhari heard the smuggling case against TCS and Smart Zone and issued an ONO.

Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Shahid Jan told Customs Today that the collector has ordered to seize all the goods worth 50 million and amerced TCS as 20% of assessed value of seizure goods, while Smart Zone company as three times of evaded duty taxes.

Shahid Jan added that the court also amerced CEO of Smart Zone Company Shakir Ullah to the tune of Rs 1 million and 2 Deputy Directors Asghar Khan and Latif Hakeem to the tune of Rs 700,000 each. He said that the Adjudication Court also imposed a penalty of Rs 500,000 each on two accused Ghazanfar Gul and Saqib Abbas. It is important to mention here that the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Rawalpindi Directorate has prepared a contravention report after tracing the non-customs paid 6,047 electronics delivered to various shops before a raid on TCS warehouses. TCS has also confirmed the report. The report has slapped Rs 50.87 million taxes and duties on these items.

According to sources, 6,047 items worth Rs 78.77 million were delivered to various electronics shops in Karachi, Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Chakwal and Islamabad via TCS,  and the customs authorities had imposed smuggling charges on the TCS and Smart Zone company due to their alleged involvement in the smuggling of electronics.
