Customs AIIA foils bid to smuggle US$14000 abroad

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs team deputed at Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIA) foiled attempts to smuggle US $14000 outside the country.

Sources said that the Customs team also recovered 32 liquor bottles from the passenger travelling to Lahore from Dubai. As per details, the smuggler, identified as Aqeel, smuggled the liquor through flight EK 622 and was seized after the Customs officials searched his bad over doubt. Investigation has been started against the accused.

Earlier, on December 6, 2922, 23 iPhones, four Ipads, three Sony cameras, and one wireless set were recovered from a bag sent from Dubai to Lahore.

The smuggled items have been taken into custody. While the airlines have been directed to check the bags at the Lahore airport before dispatching them.

In a separate action, last month, Customs authorities had recovered smuggled clothes worth millions of rupees in Karachi.

The customs preventive anti-smuggling organization in raids in Karachi recovered non-duty paid clothes of 45000kg.

The raids were conducted at godowns situated in Lyari, Metha Dar, and Mandir Wali Gali. The value of recovered clothes is said to be Rs120 million.
